Designing Harmony:

How Joanne Motee Balance Luxury, Culture, Art, Sustainability, and Community in Bali

Designing Harmony: How Joanne Motee and Three Crowns Property Balance Luxury, Culture, Art, Sustainability, and Community in Bali / Bali Property / Property For Sale / Luxury Villas

In Bali’s rich design landscape, designer Joanne Motee brings over 27 years of experience in hospitality and residential design and a fearless, soulful style that seamlessly blends historical culture with contemporary influences; she masterfully balances masculine and feminine elements, plays with light and shade, and harmonises colour with monotone to merge classic and modern aesthetics.

Through her collaboration with Three Crowns Property, Joanne advances a vision where properties balance luxury, culture, art, sustainability and community in Bali, pushing boundaries with unconventional finishes, innovative textures and distinctive spatial compositions, with each project serving as a creative expression of personality, craftsmanship and the art of living beautifully.

You’ve received incredible recognition in Design. What do those awards mean to you? Beyond the trophy?

The recognition has always been more than the trophy.

It’s a nod to the countless hands of artisans, architects, contractors who help bring an idea to life. It’s proof that design, when done right, creates an atmosphere that truly honours the people who live or work in it.

To me, every award is a reminder that we’re not just building spaces, we’re shaping experiences, setting benchmarks, and carrying a responsibility to honour the land, the property, and the future of design itself.

When you begin designing a space, what story do you hope it will whisper to those who live in it?

Every space tells its own story. There’s no single thread, only authenticity, intention, and a deep reflection of the people who’ll live within it.

I hope the whisper says:

“This is yours. Made just for you.
Feel the light, the shadows, the quirks.
Celebrate the quiet moments. Celebrate the big ones too.
This is where your story unfolds in beauty, in comfort, in truth.”

How do you weave together culture, craft, and contemporary design in each project?

It begins with place, its geography, its rhythm, its culture.
Then comes the client, how they live, how they move, what they dream.
From there, I blend the now, the next, and the nostalgia.
Craft and culture ground the space.
Contemporary design lifts it into today and beyond.
Every layer holds a story of memory, of meaning, of modernity.

Looking forward, how do you envisage your design philosophy shaping the future of Three Crown Properties?

My philosophy has always been about balance. Of people, place, and purpose.
At Three Crown Properties, that translates into building with care, collaborating with intention, and designing with heart.

We’re not just shaping properties, we’re shaping communities.
And every design decision we make carries a responsibility to honour craft, land, and legacy.

In the hands of visionaries like Joanne Motee, design becomes more than an aesthetic pursuit, it becomes an act of cultural storytelling. Together with Three Crowns Property, her work reflects a new era of property that balances luxury, culture, art, sustainability, and community in Bali. Each villa is conceived not as a structure, but as a living artwork, a space where craftsmanship meets consciousness, and where modern design honours tradition.

Because in Bali, beauty isn’t only built, it’s felt, lived, and shared.

And through the collaboration between Joanne Motee and Three Crowns Property, that beauty continues to evolve, gracefully, meaningfully, and sustainably, one timeless space at a time.
